Making a natural style Japanese garden (part 1)
It was June when I posted my last blog article and has already passed 4 months after that. When I see around nature in Tokyo, autumn-colored leaves are so beautiful and I’m thankful for being able to spend a busy but simple day like this.
The day I got an inquiry to make a garden from the elderly couple was also around June. After that, we discuss and think a lot about their garden plan together. It is a good time listening to what they want and thinking about what I can do for their requests. If you want to make a natural style garden in Japan, we landscape designers tend to plant deciduous trees because you can see the transition of the season. The best season to plant a deciduous tree is Autumn, for that reason, we agreed to start working on this project from October.
Their house locates at Edogawa, Tokyo, 100m away from the Edogawa river. An abandoned house stood in front of their house was demolished and they came up with an idea to get the land and make a garden. What made me impressed was that they wanted to make a garden not only for them but also for their neighbors and people visiting around.
Making a garden in this kind of place was part of my dream; Tokyo is a very crowded city, but we can see lots of abandoned houses or lands not used efficiently. Since I always wanted to change this situation, I decided to make the most of this opportunity and create a natural taste garden everyone can enjoy. They also asked me that they want to have a parking space, so I started designing these ideas to fit my garden concept.
This land is about 80 sq.m, and the level is lower than the entrance of the customer’s house. I needed to think about how to make the most of this landscape. I usually share my design sketch with my customers and it was for this time;
It was going to change in a good way while making a garden. More user-friendly and sophisticated…
Since I was busy during weekdays for the other work, I planned to come to work at this place only for the weekends and holidays.
I will write about construction work from the next blog.
